Hi. Many thanks for your continuing work, it's really apreciated. i've been away for some time and have tried using v1.8.8.4 (the last 2 versions had their own problems), I've now installed v1.8.8.7, however, elite odyssey is a stuttering mess with TCE enable. I thought perhaps it was because of the FSR in the graphics, but even with this turned off, the game badly stutters. I tried horizons and the result is the same. If either i don't run TCE or exit TCE during the game, elite is as smooth as butter. I've done the usual in deleting the graphics folder and re-running the game, but all the time TCE is running the game really stutters badly. This did happen with V1.8.8.4 but then i thought it might have been because of the patch 9 of odyssey and also whatever they did in the update of horizons. I'm at a loss as to what is causing this. Borderless window is enabled, i've tried windowed but the results are the same. I even hooked up a 2nd monitor and used that for TCE but no joy. I have an RX6800XT so there's loads of juice for it.

Regards

have you checked the task manager to see if anything is using any excess ram / cpu / gpu power cos i found sometimes it was a connection to another website when tce ran caused a lot of extra load on cpu on my old system.

Hi Eventure,

Thanks very much for the update.)

Just a quick question.

With the destination set to manual should the trade range be displayed when the EDDB service is running because at the moment it does not?

Also, why does EDDB sit so long at initialization when I turn the service on for the first time, 15 minutes or more!

It only re--appeasrs when that service is turned off.

Thanks,

Martin

Hi. Just checked...With TCE running in odyssey -
1. In game menu cpu=10%, mem-3.9GB (24%), nvMe ssd=1%, gpu=15% (55*c)....very laggy mouse movement.
2. In game after leaving orbital station cpu=44%, mem=8.4GB (53%), nvMe ssd=1%, gpu=52% (64*c) light stutter.
3. Entering FSB cpu=35%, mem=8.4 (53%), nvMe ssd=1%, gpu=52% (64*c) heavy stutter. when exiting fsb the cpu=9%, mem=8.5 (53%), nvMe=1%, gpu=13% for a few seconds then returns to #3. and remains the same until i exit TCE, then everything is smooth and normal.
4. Typical framerate @ 2560x1440 with everything on ultra. There is no noticable net activity throughout this period or anything i can see that is causing this.
Hope this helps because i am stumped.

Regards

Hi saiyuki.

Thanks for the advice but that did not make any difference for me.8-((

Regarding your problem, have you tried it in Horizons as I wonder if it is Odyssey that is the problem as it is known to have a bit of a frame rate problem?

Martin

Hi. yes it happens with horizons as well. I've not had problems with TCE before, and only noticed it when i got back into elite a short while ago. I recently got odyssey which was patched to v9 from steam, i already had horizons and steam added the compatability patch which brought it in-line with odyssey -whatever that included.
I forgot to add the framerates i am getting in my previous post.

1. 2560x1440 everything maxed out on ultra. Currently using 165Mhz freesync but have tried various monitor settings.
2. Horizons is approx 130 f.p.s
3. Odyssey is approx 68 f.p.s

Regards

Hi,

That is strange, what CPU do you have, and does dropping the resolution down from ultra make any real difference?

Before I received my new pc I had a fairly outdated pc that was 5 years old, I ran ED on medium settings and ran TCE on a 2nd monitor but that ran very smoothly with no problems with ED at all with TCE running.

So on a better rig, I would have thought that they should play nicely together?

This is whats so frustrating, the system is more than enough for elite. The RX6800 has 16GB ram and the whole system is less than 3months old. I've tried different resolutions, swapped cables, even tried different coffee but nothing's changed. It's either smooth without TCE or bad stutter with TCE. If i had a dog i'd yell at it to see if that works. I've used 'sfc /scannow' in the terminal and there were no errors in the system files. Looking back on my previous post shows my system is not under stress or reaching temperature limits. I've re-installed the chipset and graphics drivers. Could this be a windows 11 thing? I've had elite discovery running on the 2nd monitor and that interacts with elite no problems.

Thanks for your thoughts.

So I have a stutter problem, but usually it the game stutters for a second, and by that I mean it halts, then plays. Then a few seconds it will stutter again and then play. Usually I get this in pairs far apart, like at least 10 minutes between the stutter pair and then everything is fine for a while. Is this your experience?

Reading your post I am thinking that I won't start up TCE next time and see if my game still stutters.

Hi. No mine stutters -like it's runniing at 15 f.p.s all the time until i turn off TCE. Yours sounds like something is periodically updating/downloading/checking something.

Hi Eventure. I got a TCE error flagged up during flight. I've sent the report to your mail address. Apart from the stuttering i'm suffering with TCE enabled, there were no NCP incidents.

For the Trade Range, that is by design that I remove the button, as long as you have EDDB-Relay service active AND using the automatic update enabled.
The Trade Range defines the bubble of trade stations, which TCE checks for commodity offers. The greater the selected range, the more offers will be provided.

For starting and initialisation phase of the service while gaming, the EDDB-Relay service has an option (Cache buffering) to not reinitialize the database on new database updates when leaving the Trade Range bubble. This requires more RAM for TCE but the update is processed faster.

Additionally TCE reducing the number of used CPU cores when it detects ED running. So the time to finish the initialzation phase depending on the number of CPU cores available. My advise is to start TCE and let EDDB-Relay update your database until finished (you can observe this at the Extension tab of the Launcher) and afterwards start ED.

At first, try to reduce the Tade Range and EDDB-Relay Range to lower values. I recommend to have a Trade Range three times your jump range.
Secondly, activate the Dynamic CPU Core Usage at the EDDB-Relay service to give ED more CPU power, otherwise TCE is using halve of the available cores, if necessary, which can reduce the performance of the game.
You should also try to switch the Database Update of EDDB-Relay to Manual, which will free resources of RAM used.
A Win 11 problem? Could be. I am using Win 10 here and have no performance loss in game when using TCE.
Hope that fixes your issues you report.

Thanks for the report. It's a rare edge case scenario (more than 50 factions hanging around in a star system), which will be fixed through the next update.

Hi eventure. Thank you for the info you provided. I have changed the parameters as you suggested with the 'Include stations within around **** value set at 100ly, and as i have an Imperial cutter with a jump range of 20ly i set the trade range to 50. I previously only had the TCE wiki information to go by which has a range of 700ly :cautious: but in the TCE settings it says to have the range set the same as the trade range which in my caes would be 50ly bubble and 50ly trade range. I was treading water trying various values but no joy there.
Anyway. With the in-game graphics set at high my framerate is 53.6 -previously my settings were everything at ultra and my framerate was much better, but at least now the stuttering has stopped.
Re: the amount of factions in the same area, i believe questions need to be asked of David
Again, thank you for the information (y)
