ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey PC Launch Date

Trying to decide if I want the DLC, might as well I guess.

But man, I hate to lose reputation because I am not as good at FPS as I am in a ship.

I guess exploration will be my main, maybe only use for the DLC.

Sounds like we won’t be seeing anything new out of Elite aside from this half-baked dumpster fire until next year at the earliest since they’re still working on the console version of wanna-be FPS bolt-on.

oh well.

but FD are obviously following a fiscal timeline.

Experience has shown me it won’t be worth it, logging in day one, I’ll leave it a few weeks, so some of the cracks can be filled in.
And this, along with the condition of the game is why i will likely be asking for a refund on the preorder on my second account.
If they dont fix the stuff they broke and if they dont clean up the interface, i will be doing my best to get a refund, unless of course they release a reasonably bug free quality product and i doubt that, for the reasons you stated above, they are capable of that.

We are all assuming that what is here is what we are getting, but the CMs keep saying there is more then what we've seen, like specific engineers for our suits and weapons, engineer bases that we can explore on foot.
More engineers is not a plus, its an impediment to gameplay, especially now that there is more to do.

No it's not an impediment to gameplay, when you have to do gameplay to get them. It's a reason to do gameplay.
More engineers under the current system would be even more of a PITA than it currently is now. Having to unlock engineers that I will never use, nor need to unlock engineers I DO want and need isn't good game design, it's lazy.

There are vastly better ways to provide engineering upgrades and this iteration is better than the first, however that's not saying much as it's a very low bar.

Would it not be better to use the materials to build a plug in an engineered upgrade that can be traded and swapped out? Perhaps an introduction of modules with extra slots too, at a much higher price of course.

If game developers don't believe people will min/max they're delusional. Along with balancing which is difficult of course - the best thing they can do is make the entire loop interesting and worth player's time so it doesn't feel like a grind in the first place.

Why are you unlocking engineers you'll never use? Nothing is forcing you to do that. Sorry, but I don't get it.

That's just a subjective opinion.

Not too sure what you mean.

Of course some wil min/max. But at the end of the day, the choice is up to that player. If they want to grind, grind away, nobody's forcing you. That a choice. I have a number of engineered modules. Never had to grind for a single one of them. If they want to play in a way that unenjoyable, that's all on them.

The only thing I don't like about engineers is the massive power creep (not that you need a G5 ship for NPCs), and some of the requirements to open them up (most are fine though).

I don't know much about engineers having only unlocked 2 of them, so I might be well off here, but don't you have to unlock some of them to gain access to others? I noticed that in my list (this is from memory) that I know of about 5 or 6 engineers, and some of them say as part of the unlock conditions "you were introduced to this engineer via X" (or words to that effect). If that is true, doesn't that imply that to gain access to some of them you have to go through others?

Could be, I have forgotten. Not that it's difficult to unlock them though. I haven't unlocked all of them, but the ones I've unlocked were pretty damn easy, and if you plan it well, it can be fun too.

Yes, that is correct, in order to get invites once you get started you have to get to grade three with some, more with others, etc, then you have to unlock them and such.

Like you may never want a thing from Quent, but if you want to unlock Palin for the famous G5 DDs, you must get so far along with Quent, etc..,.

Greetings Commanders,

We're delighted to announce that the PC version of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will launch on Steam, Epic Games Store and the Frontier Store on May 19th!

Your feedback during the alpha period has been invaluable and made this release date possible. We'll continue collecting your feedback throughout the upcoming alpha phase 4 and beyond launch as we work on further improvements and content updates.

Console development continues behind the scenes with an Autumn release still on schedule.

There's still time to pre-order Odyssey and get your hands on the exclusive Pioneer suit skin. The Deluxe version of the pre-order is also still available for those who want to hop into the alpha which is expected to end on April 30th.

We'll see you on foot planet-side!

Any final word on the PS4 presales and release dates?

Not so sure that pioneer skin are awsome... Just look at the helmet colored windshield, basicaly it should apply an orange color filter on your vision.... People that complain about the orange interface in ship would be verry happy to have this orange filter everywhere when they are on foot....
Hum maybe this filter won't have any impact on the player point of view because it's just a skin and it has no impact on the game play because, frontiere lie to us all that long and Elite Dangerous was not the reality, but just a game o_O !
