Carriers - a plea to Frontier from a lowly miners perspective

⛏❗Let me start off by saying that I won't ever be able to afford a Carrier of my own, so I will be one of the many people who will rely on using yours (if you'e going to have one). Yes I know I should be rich already since mining is the easier way to make money, but to me mining is a gamestyle to enjoy doing casually, and not as a shortcut to riches.

I love mining and I'm not the only one. There are large mining-based groups in elite, the IMU being just one, although I'm not a member (yet).

I've read a lot of people's feedback on here, and my main interest has always been on how the mining community can have some practical role to play in the whole carrier gameplay loop.

At the moment there is a big call to improve the mining yields of tritium, as the time it takes is too long. and also a call to make fuel available from other forms of extraction, like deep core, as well as an idea to make asteroid belts contain high yields of trit and not have it available just from planet ring systems. This is what frontier really need to look at before release as this is the biggest issue as far as fuel goes,

My biggest worry as a miner is that tritium will become even more efficient than its already been made, so that Carriers barely need any mining at all to help get them around the galaxy. You can already take a fully fueled carrier with trit bought from a refinery and take it all the way to Colonia and back and never have to mine another rock to do it. That is way overkill imho.. A trip like that should have required mining, It should have required MINERS! The issue is the mining yields, not the fuel efficiency and I hope Frontier recognise that.

Frontier, please make mining tritium more rewarding and give us different ways to extract it., but please do not make fuel any more efficient than you already have as that will once again remove miners and mining based gameplay out the loop. If carrier owners can take their ships to the ends of the galaxy and back on a hold full of store bought fuel, where do we fit in? That's already happening now with colonia trips.

For once, please think of the rock hermits. We have families to feed too!

Miners unite! ⛏ ❗

I would like to see the automatic mining rigs like what Frontier First Encounters had. We could drop them on planets and come back later. Those would be cool for gathering Tritanium.
But yes I also see the need to give miners a part in moving carriers around too. Maybe lower the amount of Tritanium that can be stored in the hold, so mining opportunities are more frequent on big journey's? But they need to make mining the fuel fun and worth the efforts first.

Have you seen all the whinge posts about having to mine tritium?
Did you even read his post?

He's already said mining needs to be looked at and made more rewarding. The post is about fuel efficiency and a call for frontier to fix mining, not make a band aid fix by making fuel more efficient than it already is, as that will not fix the problem, all it will do is delay the issue and make miners & mining even less relevant.

I like the idea , since tritium will be the 1st commodity that can be USED and traded among players. I also like minning in this game , both gameplay of it (core and surface).
I also agree that if you want some carrier to taxy in the bubulle you may dont need miner , but for such long trip you may need.

But this pose some problem in term (again) of vison of the game. For some solo explorer that want to reach some faraway place with his carrier ,it may be a pain to be alone. And they will this feature to be gone. When on other side most miner , and squadron actually find it fun.

This is where we see (again) that carrier were designed as squadron / multiplayer asset and now released as personnal asset.

I love the idea to have more interaction among player , like the fuel rat does but with tritium, sort of mining cat specialised in minning for other carrier , for money or fame. So smoothing tritium mining is a big + for me.

So big up to your post , hope FDev see this and consider it.

I don't think Carriers should be something that is easy to fly solo around the galaxy, but it looks like frontier are intending them to be the Anaconda Mk 2 with the way the original vision has been watered down from capital ship for a squad, to be a personal-go-anywhere-space station for causal player x. That's the way it is but it doesn't mean some of the original ideas frontier had for carriers - like mining fuel and giving miners a role in moving carriers around - have to be thrown out of the loop.

There will be players using their carriers to sell fuel to other players, and there is the dssa carriers that will be selling fuel around the galaxy too. So solo players who hate mining can still get the fuel if they need it, and miners will still get to be useful by mining it. My point is that if fuel is made too efficient then mining becomes a rarity and not a necessity.
If they fix mining and don't make fuel more efficient than it already is, I think everyone will be happy.

I guess you didn't understand my post. I agree that mining tritum should become part of the economy of Fleet Carrier ownership, I am just pointing out the weight of posts in regards of Fleet carrier that make strident objection to any form of effort required from owning a carrier, especially mining for fuel

Well, it's awkward that the Galaxy has Slaves, Imperial Slaves, Carrier and dedicated NPC Crews on steady payroll - and even "Master Chefs" as dedicated "high-end cooking slaves"...

...but getting anyone to help you Mining a little Tritium on a high-end Carrier? Nope ;)
It's a weird, weird Galaxy for sure.

I'd expect that even a bunch of "Occupied Escape Pods" might contain inhabitants that (after rescue and opening their Pods) should be happy enough to maybe lend a hand?

I >like< the idea of working a little to keep the Carrier in good shape.
However, I strongly dislike the idea that I'm supposedly the only person amongst many faces that's capable to mine Tritium or On/Offload Cargo.
Should be an >option< to speed things up. But being all alone shouldn't be our fate we're doomed to fulfill.

And not to forget, this can only work if we are able to buy and sell at the same time from one carrier...

An easy post to agree to 110% as a Miner. Whilst in agreement, I do feel for solo players but that is no ones fault other than the person who decided to make FC's personal rather than Squadron. Having said that, if it is purchasable and they don't want to mine then that is the avenue they will have to take.

Colonia and back with one load seems ridiculous to me. To Colonia maybe, but you would think they'd need to refuel again at Colonia to get back. That's some 20k~ distance.

I have my hopes up that FC's will be the first opportunity that miners get for actually creating a supply out of their hard work and along with Tritium we will see the smallest signs of player ran economy. But as you said, if the station supply remains high there won't be much of a demand, at least around populated space, leaving the only real time Miners are needed will be at the edges of the galaxy to get the FC's home.

Real Miners could be the new Fuel Rats for Carriers.

Sometimes parody goes over my head. e.g. Players that love mining but declare they won't have enough credits to afford a Carrier sounds like a contradiction.

I mentioned this in another post, but it's actually more relevant here:

After finally trying the Borann Triple LTD Hotspot, I believe that Tritium yields in SINGLE hotspots should be on par with LTD yields in the Borann Triple LTD hotspot. I think this would make mining for FC fuel a much less... frustrating/annoying... undertaking.

Another publication of someone (surely you are more an explorer than a miner) who wants to put chains or weights on our ships or carriers so that others do not see the galaxy in our lives, ok.

Carrier is a Capital ship and new content that will undoubtedly steer the game in a new direction (if it links into new era). It should take effort, planning, logistics and resources to take it around the galaxy. If you want to see the galaxy, you can always buy an Anaconda.

that is just your opinion, as if it was not enough effort to have obtained the money ... 🤷‍♂️
it is a "game", but if you want effort, planning, logistics and resources, any simulator can help you, there are already enough heavy tasks in the game , and now the carrier management screen .... why are you so masochistic? you have nothing else to do but play elite? Doing any activity already takes 1 hour just jumping like a fool before you start doing anything ...

Sometimes this community is frustrating 🤦‍♂️
